Our Story

A little L.N. Grand History

Did you know “Grand” was once a term used for “Variety” or “5 & 10 Cent” stores? For most of the 20th century, you could find a “Grand” store on almost every Main Street in America: the forerunners of mid-century department stores like Macy’s and mall shops. There were national chains like Woolworth’s, and local operators–like L.N. Grand.

Travel back in time to 1947…

The L.N. Grand story began in 1947, when Louis and Amelia Naginsky opened their first L.N. Grand Store in Palisades Park, NJ. People flocked to the store knowing it stocked all sorts of items for the whole family, for all seasons, at all prices. If the store didn’t have it in stock, they would place a special order for the item. Extensive variety and personal service contributed to its success.

Fast forward to 1960…

In 1960, the second generation Naginskys, Barry and his wife Arlene, opened a brand new store in Westwood, NJ, expanding inventory to feature more name brand, novelty and decorative items while continuing to supply everyday basics and hard-to-find items. The family sold the Palisades Park store in 1997, focusing their efforts on satisfying the needs of the Westwood patrons.

And today…

Currently, third-generation family member Steve Naginsky, his wife Pat, and manager Walter Totin head the L.N. Grand team. For over 60 years, L.N. Grand has provided “what the customer wants”: local, personal service and virtually thousands of items from bubblegum to barbeques.
